The Best Gear for the Best Salmon
Fishing in Alaska

A quality Alaska Salmon fishing trip isn't cheap so why show up with shoddy gear? While our guides are all equipped with the right tackle for all five species of Pacific Salmon, your trip will always be more enjoyable if you know you're making the journey with the right stuff. Big fish bring out even the smallest flaws in every piece of tackle connected to them from the lure right down to the fighting butt, you can always call us for advice on the right gear to tame our trout and salmon. In addition, you can contact any of the shops on the right for expert advice on tackle, clothing, waders, flies, and more.

Orvis Gear For Your Alaska
Salmon Fishing Trip

The right equipment and proper technique is extremely important when fishing in Alaska for salmon and trout.

Our strategies for catching salmon changes depending on what part of the river we are on.  The lower river has wide deep runs and the upper river braids can have runs that feel like a spring creek as well as larger turns and open runs with gravel bars and islands inter mixed.  When targeting  Salmon for example, you might start fishing early in the morning with conventional gear trolling rods on the lower river and on the way back to the lodge we may see some big Kings surfacing in a seams off a gravel bar way upriver and pull out the heavy duty Orvis fly rods.  Below are some examples and links to Stores we highly recommend as they bring groups up with us each year and they sell the right Orvis fly fishing equipment and fishing gear to use.

Orvis clothing and a travel duffle is a must when traveling to alaska
